| "It seems that too much thought and not enough fun may have gone into W.Minc's second compilation of local talent, Melbourne Water 2. Their attempt to catalogue as many styles of music as possible skips through arty rock, experimental, electronica, jazz freakouts, punk, indie-pop and a few other genres yet to be named. Ambitious, certainly, but with only the city itself as a defining feature, this record's appeal is too heavily skewed towards listeners with a particular interest in Melbourne. Still, it's and interesting and occasionally exciting ride, with highlight tracks from Mum Smokes, Popolice, Lakes, Digger And The Pussycats and The Tranquilizers. -Andrew Ramadge (Mess And Noise, March/April, 2006). |
